Philip Glass

Philip Glass (* 31. Januar 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland) ist ein US-amerikanischer Musiker und Komponist. Er gilt zusammen mit Steve Reich, Terry Riley und La Monte Young als einer der wichtigsten Pioniere der Minimal Music. Das Werk von Glass umfasst zahlreiche Opern und Musiktheaterwerke, zwölf Symphonien, elf Konzerte, acht Streichquartette und verschiedene andere Kammermusik- und Filmmusikkompositionen. Drei seiner Filmkompositionen wurden für einen Oscar nominiert.

Vor allem durch seine Musik zu dem Film Koyaanisqatsi (1982) wurde Glass’ Popularität außerhalb der Klassikgemeinde gesteigert, er galt nun als Komponist der New-Age-Bewegung.

Philip Glass

Philip Morris Glass (born January 31, 1937) is an American composer and pianist. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century. Glass’s work has been associated with minimalism, being built up from repetitive phrases and shifting layers. Glass describes himself as a composer of “music with repetitive structures”, which he has helped evolve stylistically.

Especially through his music for the film Koyaanisqatsi (1982) Glass’ popularity outside the classical community was increased, he was now considered a composer of the New Age movement
