Journey into Disaster

I proudly present chapter

12.01. BSWD Sendong City

The parents, who are friends of the German Thomas Heger, who was arrested in the Philippines, have a summons to the municipal Youth Welfare Office BSWD. They argue why they want their sons back as soon as possible. The five boys are under custody of the BSWD.

Vicente quickly replies: “When will Phil and the other four be allowed to return home to us?”

Everyone, except Ernesto, who sits next to Sir Pagut and Romolo, who seems to be dozing, nod after Vicente’s question. Romolo’s ex-wife Inday even demands quite forcefully: “I want to have my Aboy back immediately. I miss him so much.”

Michael pushes Romolo slightly, who comes to himself and moans: “Fuck knees, who, what?”

Vicente thinks: Oh, suddenly Inday is playing the worried mother. Usually, their interest in Aboy is rather low. Nevertheless, Vicente is pleased about the unexpected support, as Rica and Lang are also becoming more courageous and bringing their demands.

Rica whispers: “I’ve lost a child before. Now not also Sam. The children should stay with their parents and nowhere else!”

Her husband Ernesto doesn’t help her: “Rica, that was something completely different. That was the devil dengue.”

Sir Pagut [The head of the BSWD Sendong City] nods and plays with a pencil.

Lang brushes back his stubborn hair: “I miss my two sons everywhere and every day in the household. Nobody is looking for firewood, no helpers there to carry the water from the washing place to the house. Jan is a good boy. He is a talented fisher boy and always brings something home from the sea. My Dan, our youngest son, is very close to me. You know, sir, my Dan is very unhappy without me. I feel that as a mother.”

Matthew clears his throat. With a deep voice, he states: “And I miss Jan as a helper on the construction sites. That’s a strong guy.”

Suddenly Lang has her cell phone in her hand: “This morning Jan’s teacher called me. He was completely dissolved, because he registered Jan for the course in boxing and ordered the equipment especially for him. The course started on Monday. Now Jan is missing. One of his most talented children with a lot of ambition is Jan. That’s what the teacher said.”

Sir Pagut shrugs his shoulders: “We will find a solution for this too.”

Romolo gasps: “I miss my Aboy too. You see, sir, I only have one eye and one finger is missing. This damn crab-fishery. In addition, only one ear works but that only a little. I’m not talking about the very painful arthritic knees. I also need my son back immediately.”

Since some of the parents spoke at the same time, Sir Pagut needs a few seconds to process the information. Certainly, he did not expect the clear demands of the parents. He seems a bit confused, quickly shakes his head and answers: “Yes, it’s important to have children in the house.”
