Journey into Disaster

I proudly present chapter

11.03. Franco’s Plan

The German Thomas Heger was arrested in the Philippines. There are alleged (serious) allegations against him. Franco, Heger’s foster son, tries to convince the parents of an out-of-court settlement.

Even with Ernesto, alcohol is showing its first effects: “But we also have to listen to what the BSWD tells us.” He twirls his right index finger in the air and groans: “The BSWD is very, very, very powerful.” Like Kagawad he struggles to get up, but immediately sits down again: “Everyone knows that!” He yells: “Everyone!”

His wife Rica and son Alvin jump over to him. Rica groans: “Time for you, Ern, to go to sleep. Think about your blood pressure! Have you taken your pills? Ernesto harshly fends off Rica with his arm: “Oh, let me!”

Even the always silent Matthew has more alcohol than he can handle: “I absolutely agree with Ern!” He looks around and acts mysteriously: “Because there is a lot at stake!”

“So what, uncle?” asks Marielou, a little too cheeky.

Matthew doesn’t even notice the subtleties: “A lot, girl, a lot!” Turning to his wife Lang, he asks: “Is there still beer there? I would rather drink beer now.”

Lang looks at Franco. He is digging 500 Piso out of his pocket and sends two teenagers to buy drinks: “Three bottles of beer and the change back to me!” Again he starts to put forward his request for an out-of-court settlement, but now his uncle gets ahead of him.

Romolo is babbling a little too. The alcohol dispels the pain in the arthritic knee. He gets cocky, hits the table with his fist, frightening everyone and waking up some who have already been dozing. To his ex-wife Inday he gives a sharp look and yells: “Fuck BSWD!” In response, she just shakes her head and asks Rica: “Do you have a glass?” Silas, Inday’s 16-year-old son, fetches it from Rica, pours the Tanduay Rum up to the rim of the glass, takes a long sip and passes the half-empty glass to his mother. She is artificially outraged: “What’s that? Just like your father!” Than she pours the rum down in one go and hands over the glass with the words: “Take it, Lang. You look like you could need something too!” Lang doesn’t think twice. Silas fills up the glass for her half full. Mikel-Loy and Jonathan look greedily. Marielou, Vicente and Marie-Ann grimace.

Mik holds back, as his wife Vicente and mother-in-law Marie-Ann look critically every time he takes a small sip.
